Outside the Netherlands the boutique firm concept has been well-established for years now: a modest-sized law firm, focusing on one or more specialist areas, rather than engaging in general practice. If a client comes for advice on issues outside the core areas of expertise, he is usually referred elsewhere.
Lawyers associated with a boutique firm have generally accumulated substantial experience working for large law firms and are specialists in their field. They are accustomed to acting at top-level, often on an international scale.
Many clients favour a boutique firm not only because of its specialist nature, but also because of the lawyers' strong commitment to their cases and clients.
