Privacy & Data Protection

Protection of privacy and personal data is a subject that is receiving increasing attention. The use of personal data within companies, Big Data, social media, cookies, profiling, eHealth: the privacy landscape is changing rapidly. The same applies to the legislation in this area and the monitoring of its compliance. Privacy compliance has stopped being a matter of choice a long time ago and the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) makes it even more important to pay attention to this subject. Non-compliance may result in considerable sanctions and in reputational damage.

Whether it concerns the use of customer files, bio banks, patient registers, the transfer of data to foreign subsidiaries, employee monitoring, absence registration, the prevention of fraud, the development of (medical) apps or the placement of cookies on websites, the rules relating to the processing and protection of personal data affect every organisation.

Leijnse Artz has thorough knowledge of and is widely experienced in the areas of personal data processing and protection. We assist companies and institutions that are involved in investigations and enforcement proceedings initiated by supervisory bodies, such as the Netherlands Personal Data Authority (AP) and the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). We also draft privacy statements, processor agreements, patient information forms, perform privacy audits and advise on international personal data transfers, the handling of data leaks and other security issues, the design of direct marketing actions and requests for data access by authorities.
